ABOUT THE ARTIST

The predominant subjects of my work are the back alleys of Little Portugal and Parkdale in Toronto; oddly peaceful, and still locations sandwiched between frenetic blocks of city, where unusual colours, textures and shapes meet in unintended ways. I enjoy finding and carefully painting a view that appeals to my sense of design – and sometimes humour – in an otherwise quite utilitarian part of the neighborhood.

Recently, I’ve circled back to the streets and the storefronts that line them. Some have seen better days, but they all share a quality of self-sufficiency, individualism, and yet also community. In my mind these store fronts convey aspects of the personality of the people that own and operate these one-of-a-kind businesses.

I paint in acrylic and watercolour and have painted since childhood. I earned a Bach. of Design degree from The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where I completed courses in drawing, typographic design, illustration, photography, and art history.
