What interests me are the smaller, everyday things that constitute a neighbourhood. The level of detail that I execute in my paintings requires time and stamina; once the painting is complete the subject has become ingrained in my memory, and my relationship with it has been altered in a positive way — gradually, the ordinary becomes important.

Originally from Nova Scotia and a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, Emily moved to Toronto in 2006, settling in the neighbourhood of Little Portugal. She has been painting full-time since 2020. Emily’s work is held in private collections in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and in the City of Toronto’s permanent collection as the recipient of the Mayor’s Purchase Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair.
